As an affiliate of Triton Fight Center (Broken Arrow, OK), Balanced Bodies provides Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu group classes and private lessons in mid-town Tulsa.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a lifelong learning experience, with the outcome being increased confidence and an improved ability to defend oneself in the event of an attack. Whether you are just starting out in submission grappling or you have quite a bit of experience in martial arts, our student-focused lessons can help empower you with new skills.
BJJ techniques are often used by law-enforcement and military personnel for use in worst-case scenario, hand-to-hand combat situations. These techniques, along with strength training and cardio conditioning, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can help you meet your personal goals or overcome what would otherwise be a nightmarish situation.
Each of our jiu jitsu classes begins in a traditional line-up, with a yoga-based stretch to open up the ligaments, followed by a brief cardio warmup including running, pushups/situps, and line drills to enhance functional movements.
After warmup, the day's technique is demonstrated, beginning with the basics which can then be drilled with a partner. Details are added and drilled, then students are paired up for rolling or live drills.
Unlike most schools that teach a different, unrelated technique every day, we typically work on a specific area for an entire week. For example, while one week may focus on spider guard, each day's classes will focus on a specific aspect of spider guard (transitions to spider guard, sweeps from spider guard, passing spider guard, etc.)
We have found that this teaching method helps with long-term retention of the techniques since they stay top of mind over multiple days, and it gives students a better opportunity to play both sides of the technique.
Traditional Brazilian jiu jitsu is a grappling-based martial art focusing on high-pressure positional control and submission of an opponent from various positions, such as guard, half guard, mount, and side control. Students in this class learn foundational techniques that apply to both the self-defense and sport aspects of BJJ. The techniques taught in this class include judo and wrestling style takedowns, closed and open guard passes, closed and open guard sweeps, and submissions. Upper belts attending these classes will also learn additional transitions and details that apply when rolling with other trained practitioners.
