No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu utilizes the techniques in traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but without the kimono-type uniform.
Our advanced no-gi jiu jitsu curriculum gives students in midtown Tulsa a chance to explore modern methods of attacking and defending against a trained opponent in a detail-oriented environment. The sport of BJJ is constantly evolving, and we are always looking to improve our curriculum to stay on top of the curve.
What is No-Gi BJJ Advanced Class?
The advanced No-Gi curriculum builds on the foundations taught in the no-gi fundamentals classes. The advanced classes typically use the same techniques taught in the fundamentals, but focus more on the sport variations than on self defense. Coaches delve into specific details of techniques and demonstrate additional submissions for upper belts that aren't allowed in competition at lower ranks.
In addition to fundamentals, other techniques covered may include heel hooks, advanced/modern open guards, discussions of points scoring and related strategies, and more.
Classes consist of several stages:
- Class start / Warm up
This includes a formal bow in, a yoga-based stretch, brief cardio, and line drills
- Instruction / Drilling
Coaches will teach a series of techniques, generally either related or becoming more complex. Throughout the instruction, coaches allow time for partner drilling of each sequence to ensure a good understanding and correct application of the techniques
- Sparring / Resistance Drilling
After all techniques have been shown, coaches will pair students up for sparring or resistance drilling starting from a specific position.
What you need to know?
This class is intended for students who have been training at least a few months, but classes are open to anyone! Balanced Bodies' coaches will make sure you are able to work on a technique that fits your skill level, even if you're brand new!
# What to wear
All no-gi classes recommend students wear a rashguard/compression t-shirt and MMA/grappling/board shorts (no pockets, loops, or other items that fingers can get caught in). T-shirts are OK for visitors but are not recommended for long term training (they get sweaty and stretch out, and really aren't comfortable to train in). Compression shorts, spats, or leggings under training shorts are required. Gi pants are allowed but not recommended. Female students are required to wear a sports bra under their rashguard for comfort and safety.
